Ryder McNabb Goes 1-1 for Overall Win in 250 Pro/AM
BRIGDEN, ON (June 13, 2023) – With the first round in the books, the 2023 Triple Crown series made its way to Whispering Pines MX in Kamloops, BC for the second round of racing. The outdoor style track proved challenging for riders as deep ruts formed and line choice became imperative.
450 PRO
After consistent results at the first round and some time between races to make adjustments, it was Tyler Medaglia who grabbed the holeshot in Moto 1 of the 450 Pro race. Number one plate holder, Dylan Wright was quick to display his dominance and take over the lead with Medaglia and Maffenbeier in tow.
Tyler Medaglia, riding for the Thor GASGAS team, regained the lead after taking advantage of mistakes made by Dylan Wright. Shawn Maffenbeier moved into the second spot as Wright did his best to recover and salvage the valuable positions lost. Medaglia secured the moto win, ending Wrights dominant winning streak in the 450 Pro class.
Tyler Medaglia was able to get the jump again, grabbing the 450 Pro Moto 2 holeshot. Similar to the first moto, Dylan Wright was close behind to take over the lead on lap one. Shawn Maffenbeier and Jess Pettis settled into the third and fourth spots with Medaglia still in second. As the midway point of the race approached, Maffenbeier was able to reel in Medaglia and move into the second place position. The MX101 Yamaha rider made a strong charge in the second half of the moto in an attempt to put pressure on Wright as the clock counted down. Wright maintained his intensity to go 3-1 for the overall win for the day. Tyler Medaglia secured second overall with 1-3 moto finishes and Shawn Maffenbeier rounded out the top three with a pair of second place finishes.
250 PRO/AM
The Red Bull Factory KTM race team dominated the starts in the 250 Pro class at round two of racing of the 2023 Triple Crown Series. The fastest qualifier of the day, Ryder McNabb grabbed the holeshot in moto one with teammate Kaven Benoit close behind. Mitchell Harrison returned looking for redemption after having mechanical difficulties in Edmonton resulting in two DNFs. Harrison rode a consistent moto behind Benoit to finish third in the opening moto.
Josiah Natzke made a strong charge with two laps of racing remaining that resulted in an exciting battle for third place as the riders approached lappers in the final turns of the race track. Harrison was able to hold onto third with Natzke finishing fourth and Quinn Amyotte working his way into the mix to finish fifth. Noah Viney made his debut with the GDR Honda team to fill in for injured rider, Jacob Piccolo. With impressive lap times in the first moto, he was able to secure a sixth place finish behind Amyotte.
Moto two proved to be just as exciting with the KTM riders both getting the jump off the gate. It was an outside pass by McNabb that put him into the lead over teammate Kaven Benoit. Mitchell Harrison seems to have found his rhythm as he moved into the second place spot. A mistake early in the moto caused Benoit to lose positions as he found himself outside the top five on lap three.
Josiah Natzke continued to push his way forward moving from fifth to second by lap five where he would stay for the remainder of the race with McNabb still out front. Quinn Amyotte made his way up to third place by the midway point of the moto, but a mistake would find him back outside the top five. Harrison was able to work his way back up into third as Benoit made a charge for fourth. McNabb closed in on the series points gap behind Benoit with a dominating performance of 1-1 moto finished at round two. Josiah Natzke finished second overall for the day with 4-2 moto scores, and Mitchell Harrison went 3-3 for third overall.
