Mitchell Harrison secures first 250 Moto win for 2023
BRIGDEN, ON (June 20, 2023) – Set with the Calgary skyline in the distance, the 2023 Triple Crown Series travelled to Whispering Pines MX for round three of racing. Riders prepped rolloffs in anticipation of wet conditions with rain in the forecast. It was Dylan Wright who collected the overall 450 Pro win for the day, but Jess Pettis proved a force to be reckoned with grabbing both 450 Pro holeshots and ending Wright’s 14 round moto win streak. Mitchell Harrison stepped up to the plate, challenging the dominating KTM riders to claim his first moto win of the 2023 season.
450 Pro
Fired up from last weekend, Jess Pettis launched out of the gate to grab the holeshot in Moto 1. Keylan Meston did his best to challenge the leader with Medaglia in tow. The fastest qualifier of the day, Dylan Wright found himself outside the top 20 after a bad start. Shawn Maffenbeier moved into third as Pettis put an 11 second gap on the rest of the pack. Wright made a strong charge to work his way up into the top ten, and then the top five. Tyler Medaglia and Maffenbeier battled for second in the final laps of the moto. Wright worked his way into the mix, contending for a top three spot. Pettis took the moto win, with Dylan Wright finishing second and Shawn Maffenbeier in third.

It was Pettis again grabbing another hole shot in Moto 2 with Tyler Medaglia and Dylan Wright close behind. Wright made the move on Medalia early in the moto to move into second with Shawn Maffenbeier and Keylan Meston in the top five. Wright wasted no time closing the gap behind Pettis, but the KTM rider was able to hold him off until lap five. They remained turn for turn with each other until a small mistake by Pettis that cost him a few seconds. Maffenbeier moved into the third spot the second half of the moto with Medaglia in fourth. They would finish the moto in this order with Wright taking the win.
Dylan Wright extended his points lead after taking the overall win for the day with 2-1 moto scores. Jess Pettis finished second overall with 1-2 finishes, and Maffenbeier in third overall after going 3-3.

“It was a rough one last weekend, it was a lot of motivation and it fired me up this week. I wanted to go back training on Monday morning. It was a rough one but I’m happy to turn it around and get the win in the first moto here. It was a good moto. I made a few changes and felt more comfortable that second moto. Dylan is riding good, and Maff and all the boys. Overall I’m just working on getting that race pace back. It takes a while after being off for almost a whole year. We’re going to challenge him for that win, we won’t make it easy on him I know that.”
Jess Pettis

“The second moto was definitely a lot funner than the first one. With the rain, going down early with another rider, I didn’t make it easy on myself today. Hats off to the team, we got the job done and did what we needed to do. We come here to win overalls. I think the rough ones make the good days just that much better and that’s why we work our butts off during the week. I gotta thank my dad, it’s Father’s Day so happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. We have a bunch on the team so I’m just happy to do it for them. I wanna keep this train going. The overalls don’t come easy. Shawn, Tyler – they’re all riding well. I think we’re going to have a great east coast. I’m an east coast guy and next up is Gopher Dunes, and that’s my sandbox so we just need to put in the hard work. We have a few weeks off and we need to put the hammer to the grindstone and let’s go.”
Dylan Wright

“Moto 2 was tricky, I couldn’t get the flow I had in the first moto. I was trying stuff and I felt like I would inch in on Jess a little bit and then he’d pull me back. I was doing my best. I had a couple real squirrely moments out there that got my heartrate up. After those, I was like let’s just settle into this third place spot and bring it home.”

250 Pro/Am
The Moto 1 holeshot was claimed by Red Bull Factory KTM rider Kaven Benoit. Points leader Ryder McNabb kept teammate Benoit in sight as he rode in a close second place position. Quinn Amyotte on the Manluk Rock River Yamaha settled into the number three spot with Mitchell Harrison and Noah Viney in the top five on lap one.
McNabb made the pass on Benoit to take over the lead as the rain started and track conditions started to become more challenging. Harrison passed Amyotte to take over third. McNabb maintained the lead for the remainder of the moto, with Benoit in second and Harrison still in third.

In Moto 2 it was Thor GASGAS team rider Mitchell Harrison who would grab the Royal Distributing holeshot. McNabb kept Harrison within reach and the two battled for the lead. Kaven Benoit rode a consistent third place, maintaining that position for the entire duration of the race. Tanner Ward rode within the top five battling with Josiah Natzke. A mistake by Ward allowed Natzke to reclaim his fourth place spot. Ward remounted quickly and held onto fifth. Mitchell Harrison put an 8 second gap on the pack to claim his first 250 Pro moto win for the 2023 season.
McNabb took home the overall win for the day with 1-2 moto scores. Mitchell Harrison picked up some valuable championship points with a second place overall finish, going 3-1. Kaven Benoit rounded out the podium with 2-3 finishes.

“I definitely feel good, everything’s been going good. Honestly, I just need to keep building. My 30 minute motos, I haven’t been doing a ton of 30 minute motos obviously. I just need to keep building and keep doing motos. I think I’m racing the Combine down at Red Bud in a couple weeks which will be fun.”
Ryder McNabb

“Ryder has been riding incredible, his sprint speed is off the charts. I knew if I could stay with him, that I could maybe get by him. I was able to get it done, got the holeshot and that was awesome. I knew I could win, I knew I could do it.”
Mitchell Harrison

“The second moto was a bit tougher for me, I had a really good start again but just couldn’t keep up the pace of the kids there. It was a solid third place and solid points. I’m happy with how the west coast rounds have gone. I’m second in the points and still in the battle. I like the east coast. We’ll be working hard during break and looking forward to heading into the east coast rounds.”
